German International School Chicago has a rolling admissions policy, accepting students all year round if space is available.

We have a two-step admission process: If you would like to enroll your child/ren at GISC, please download and fill out the application form and send it to us (German International School Chicago, 1447 W Montrose Ave, Chicago, IL 60613) including a check in the amount of $150/per child. Whenever feasible, we would invite you and your child/ren for an interview. The purpose of this meeting is to assess for both you and us whether GISC is the best choice considering the goals you have for your child/ren and the programs we offer. If you decide to enroll your child/ren, then we ask you to complete a registration form and submit it with a $500/child non-refundable tuition deposit to GISC. This will guarantee a space for the student(s).

Depending on space availability, we accept students year-round.

Admission to Pre-K (3- to 5-year-olds)

No prior knowledge of German is required. In fact, the majority of students entering Pre-K do not speak any German. Our Pre-K Program is a two-year German immersion program. By the time students are entering kindergarten, they speak German fluently.

We offer Pre-K as a 5-day full-time (8:30 am to 3:00 pm) and a 5-day part-time (8:30 am to 1:00 pm) program.

Admission to Kindergarten and Elementary/Middle School

Our School offers classes through 7th grade. We will grow through 8th grade in 2018-19.

Although German remains the dominant language of instruction, students have daily formal instruction in English Language Arts, and other subject-area units are taught in English from time to time.

Students entering Kindergarten from our preschool have oral fluency in German and have also acquired some basic reading and writing skills in both German and English. Students entering Kindergarten through 2nd grade without fluency in German will join our Become Bilingual Program. Through intensive, small-group instruction in German, students will be ready to join all regular courses within a year. Students with limited English knowledge will receive tutoring through our English Language Learning Program. Starting in 3rd grade, students also learn French.

The school day for Kindergarten and Elementary/Middle School students is from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
