2013 German Immersion Summer Camp
GSC is happy to partner with the Lycée Français once again to offer German Immersion Summer Camp at the Lycée. Embark on a summer adventure full of fun and discovery, and live an international experience in the heart of the city!
Die Abenteurer (ages 6-10)
Die Forscher (ages 3-5)
Dates (in 2-week blocks): June 24 – July 5, July 8 – July 19, July 22 – August 2. Families can sign up for one, two, or all three weeks.

GSC 2011-2012 Kindergarten/1st/2nd Graders Win $50 in Essay Contest
Last year’s Kindergarten/1st/2nd grade class was notified in November that they won $50 in an essay competition sponsored by the ZfA (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen) in early 2012. The theme of the contest was Deutschland, Land der Zukunft (Germany, Land of the Future), and all students wrote short essays addressing this topic. Here are their winning essays:

Es sieht sehr schön aus in Deutschland. Da sind sehr viele Bäume. Es sind sehr schöne Bäume. Fußball. Mein Traum in Deutschland. Ich liebe Fußball. Es ist kleiner als Amerika.

Im Sommer werde ich mit meiner Familie nach Deutschland fliegen.
Ich werde Fußball spielen und Skateboard fahren.

Mit Oma möchte ich Fahrrad fahren.
Dann bekomme ich ein Eis. Meine Lieblingssorten sind Schokolade und Vanille.

Mit einem Motorrad will ich auf der Autobahn fahren.
Vielleicht fahre ich auch ein Rennauto.

Deutschland ist doch gut bekannt,
München, Frankfurt und der Nordseestrand.
Dort werde ich spielen mit meinen Cousinen,
wir gehen zum Park mit vielen Maschinen.

Dann werden wir nach Hause laufen.

Ich träume, dass ich einen Tag da leben werde. Ich werde nach Heidelberg fahren. Dort werde ich wandern. Es wird so schön werden. Wir gehen dann am Fluss spazieren. Wenn ich da bin, spiele ich mit vielen Kindern. Wir spielen fangen. Wir gucken „Die Sendung mit der Maus“. Wir reden Deutsch. Du kannst dort Brötchen essen und auch Kekse. Dort gibt es auch Berge. Es wird schön in Deutschland.

Deutschland, Land meiner Zukunft
Ich träume davon, dass ich einmal in Deutschland leben werde. In Deutschland, wenn ich Kinder habe, werde ich vielleicht eine Kindergärtnerin. Vielleicht kaufe ich in Deutschland für meine Kinder eine Katze oder eine Schildkröte. Meine Kinder sollen Lisa, Anna und Anton heißen. Ich gehe mit meinen Kindern zu dem Bauernhof. Wir können dort reiten, das geht in Chicago nicht. Wenn ich nach Hause komme, wartet der Vati zu Hause. Meine Kinder werden Deutsch können und Englisch, genau wie ich.

We like reading and books!
The German immersion summer camp will run for five one-week sessions from June 25 –July 27, 2012, five days a week, from 9 am until 3 pm. There will be two groups– one for ages 3-5 and the other for ages 6-10. The camp will take place at the Lycée location, 613 W. Bittersweet Place, at Lake Shore Drive.
Camp activities will include sports, games, crafts, cooking, music, yoga, theater, and much more. The children will spend as much time as possible outside, on the Lycée grounds, at the beach, and in the playgrounds and fields of Lincoln Park just across the street.
There are also two weekly field trips, one to the beach and one to various places around Chicago such as a water park, the zoo, and a bowling alley. Our teachers will incorporate grammar and vocabulary-building strategies into all activities so that the children will be improving their German as they play. Tuition is yet to be announced ($370 in 2011), but includes t-shirts, snacks, catered lunch and all field trip expenses. There is also before and after camp care available from 8-9 am and 3-5:30 pm for an additional charge.

Our location 1447 West Montrose in Chicago.
We are renting a section of this space formerly occupied by the Passages Charter School. The space includes classrooms & office, kitchen area, bathrooms, an outside play lot and a spacious gym. We are delighted to secure this location for our first year and know that our families will also appreciate what the building has to offer in terms of location and amenities.
