Science Project on Mendelian Inheritance

We’re grateful to Prof. Dr. Fabian Preuss from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside who carried out a scientific project on Mendelian inheritance with Grades 5-7 over the past few weeks. The students received an introduction into meiosis and genetics. After that, they categorized fruit flies according to different phenotypic traits, sedated them with CO2, and crossed different lineages in an attempt to map the genes. In the photos posted here, the students are shown analyzing the offspring. To conclude this project, younger GISC students had the opportunity to examine the larvae, pupae, and flies during after-school care. Thanks again to Prof. Dr. Preuss for enriching our STEM program with this scientific project!
