Herzlich Willkommen!!

Welcome to the webpage of the German International School Chicago. We appreciate your interest in our school and aim to give you up to date information on life at our school. You will find an overview of goals, content, structure and current developments on the following pages.

At the German International School Chicago you will encounter a cosmopolitan culture based on immersion in German.

Our highly qualified and dedicated team of teachers guides and supports every student to develop their full academic potential and to become competent, responsible and independent adults. In our Pre-School classes taught by German native speakers, the youngest members of our school community learn and develop together through activities stimulating social, intellectual and motor skills. From Grade 1 onwards, our  Elementary and Middle School offers our students:

  • To become independent and critical-thinking human beings, who are able to take responsibility for themselves and others.
  • To develop their academic, social and personal potential to the best of their abilities. Our students are socially competent team players.

German International School Chicago (GISC) is an independent, not-for-profit, dual-language school. GISC is a Provisional Member of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), is recognized as a DSD-School by the German ZfA (Central Agency for Schools Abroad), and is an official PASCH Partner School. GISC is also a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program and is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.

GISC’s curriculum is taught mainly in German with a multi-cultural approach. GISC welcomes students of all backgrounds and nationalities. Students learn in a supportive, intimate, individualized environment that nurtures curiosity and creativity and fosters global awareness. GISC students fluent in German and English will become well-rounded, responsible global citizens.

Preschool, ages 3-4: Part-Day (8:30 am to 1:00 pm); Full-Day (8:30 am to 3:00 pm)

Kindergarten: Full-Day (8:30 am to 3:00 pm)

Elementary School (Grades 1-6): 8:30 am to 3:00 pm

Before/After School Care: Before (7:30 am to 8.30 am); After (3:00 pm to 6:00 pm)

At GISC we hold regular Open Houses, however, we also welcome potential families to contact the school directly to arrange private school tours and to discuss their child’s individual requirements.  We also appreciate that considering a new school is a major family decision and as such to alleviate any concerns we encourage school trial days.  From Preschool to Grade 6, we invite students interested in joining the GISC community into our classrooms to meet fellow students and teachers.

If you are interested in our school, please arrange an appointment to visit us. We would be happy to meet you.
