GISC Opens Doors for Your Child’s Academic Growth

Weekly Update from the Director – April 26, 2024
Dear GISC Community,

While our 8th grade students still have important learning goals left for the remainder of the school year, most students have cemented their high school choices during the last weeks. Naturally, we wish the nine members of the GISC Class of 2024 the very best in their future endeavors at the high school level.

At this point, we are happy to report that our students have achieved acceptances to a record number (for GISC) of top high schools. These acceptances come as a result of hard work by our students in preparing and eventually sitting for a number of entrance examinations, including the CPS High School Admission Test, the Catholic School High School Placement Test, and the Independent School Entrance Examination. Likewise, I thank and congratulate all the GISC teachers who have guided and taught these students over their years at GISC. Overall, our acceptances demonstrate that our students are well poised to achieve great college acceptances at their respective high schools. Toward the end of the school year, we will indicate each student’s choice for high school, but given their options, they really cannot go wrong. Congratulations!

Here is the list of high schools that have accepted one or several of our soon-to-be 8th grade graduates. Please note that most private independent schools do not participate in the US News National Rankings:

Lycée Français de Chicago: Our partnership school, where our students can continue receiving German instruction from GISC teachers and earn a bilingual IB Diploma. The school features an international student population, including students pursuing the French Baccalaureate.

Northside College Prep: This is a selective enrollment CPS high school in the North Park neighborhood located on the northside of Chicago. It is ranked #35 in the 2024 US News National Rankings and #2 in Illinois High Schools.

Lane Tech College Prep: This is a selective enrollment CPS high school at 2501 Addison St – not too far from GISC. It is ranked #60 in the 2024 US News National Rankings and #5 in Illinois High Schools.

St. Ignatius College Prep: This school is a Jesuit Catholic institution with a rich history of preparing its students for college, offering 27 different Advanced Placement courses and having over 10 National Merit scholars in graduating classes of around 175 students.

Loyola Academy: Located in Wilmette, this Jesuit Catholic school was founded in 1909 and has a rich history of excellence, offering 24 Advanced Placement courses. Its graduates attend colleges and universities all over the U.S., including highly selective schools.

Amundsen High School: This CPS high school, not too far from GISC at 5110 Damen Ave, gives its students the opportunity to earn the IB Diploma, provided students qualify for the IB track. Students in 11th and 12th grades can choose from a variety of IB courses. The school also features the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) in 9th and 10th grades.

Lincoln Park High School: Rich in history, this school began as North Division High School in 1875 and was the first public high school on the northside of Chicago. The school offers an Advanced Placement program in addition to the IB Middle Years Program (9th and 10th grades) and the IB Diploma Program (11th and 12th grades). The IB Program, established in 1980 at the school, was the first such program in Illinois.

German International School Washington DC: Located in Potomac, Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC, this school belongs to the official network of 140 German Schools Abroad. Students may earn the international Abitur, prepared to enter college and university all over the U.S. and Europe.

Again, congratulations to the members of our Class of 2024!

All the best,
Ben
