Embracing the Spirit of Spring at GISC

Weekly Update from the Director - March 21, 2025
Dear GISC Community,

As the first days of spring arrive, we welcome the warmth, light, and sense of renewal that this season brings. After a long winter, it is a joy to see students reveling in the sunshine, finding fresh energy to learn, explore, and grow. Our “new” playground is a busy and happy place. There is something about spring that inspires play, curiosity and being social—qualities we see reflected in our students each day, especially in the great outdoors.

This season also coincides with our Parent-Teacher Conferences, a time for reflection, collaboration, and shared commitment to our students’ success. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our dedicated teachers, who work tirelessly throughout the year—through the darkest and coldest of Chicago winter days—to put students first. Their thoughtful preparation for these conferences, their care for each child’s growth, and their willingness to partner with families is truly admirable.

To our parents, thank you for your continued support and partnership. The connection between home and school is at the heart of what makes our community so special. Together, we create an environment where our students feel seen, supported, and inspired to do their best. Together, we as the adults come together as well – and I am particularly looking forward to our gala – A Night under the Desert Stars on May 17.

A final word of Thanks, Danke, and Gracias to our GPG Chair Gudrun Kern, who along with her husband and two boys is relocating to Munich, Germany. She embodies the sense of warmth and community; Gudrun has also been a driving force behind the GISC Yearbook. We bid you and your family Adieu. Bon voyage!

As we step into this new season, let’s embrace the spirit of spring—growth, renewal, and the joy of learning. May the longer days bring new opportunities, and may we continue to nurture the strong sense of community that brings us together.

With gratitude and warm wishes,

Ben Hebebrand
