Although German remains the dominant language of instruction, students have daily formal instruction in English Language Arts, and other subject-area units are taught in English from time to time. Students entering Kindergarten from our preschool have oral fluency in German and have also acquired some basic reading and writing skills in both German and English. Students entering Kindergarten through 2nd grade without fluency in German will join our Become Bilingual Program. Through intensive, small-group instruction in German, students will be ready to join all regular courses within a year. Students with limited English knowledge will receive tutoring through our English Language Learning Program. Starting in 3rd grade, students also learn French.
At GISC, our special emphasis is on the STEM subjects and also on the Arts. Through the STEM focus, students develop an early interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. At the same time, our students’ creativity and artistic minds are enriched through early education in music and art, as well as the performing arts. Students’ learnings are showcased throughout the school year in events such as our Annual Christmas Performance and Spring Concert & Art Show.
