Dear GISC Community,
Following the ceremony signifying GISC’s membership within the German Schools Abroad or the Deutsche Auslandsschulen network, we were fortunate to tour the building with numerous guests, including Herr Ralf Beste, the Director General of the Department of Culture and Society from the German Federal Foreign Office. 

We met 3rd grade Homeroom Teacher Frau Bernroitner’s class along with Co-teacher Herr Sanchez  – the students delighted us with a rendition of the poem the class had written as part of the poetry unit. They had rehearsed their rendition, and it was obvious that both the kids and our guest of honor took great delight in this presentation. 

I share this poem with you in the spirit of letting you know that our students “get” it – they know that our school distinguishes itself by learning in two languages in an environment of teamwork and joy.

Unsere Schule - weltoffen, zweisprachig und bunt,
so läuft alles rund.
Wir sind ein super Team - so muss das sein,
wir helfen zusammen, ob groß oder klein.
Lernen, forschen und lachen,
wir können so vieles machen.
Die Lehrerinnen und Lehrer sind nett, wir lernen sehr viel,
so kommen wir sicher ans Ziel.
Ob Deutsch oder Englisch, Mathe oder Sport,
das lernen wir alles an diesem tollen Ort.
Das Spielen am Spielplatz und am Fußballfeld macht Spaß,
da geben wir gerne richtig viel Gas.
Die spannenden Ausflüge gefallen uns sehr,
so lernen wir immer mehr.
Wir zeigen im Unterricht viel Freude und Mut,
unsere Schule ist richtig gut.

Our School
Our school, so open, colorful, and bright,
In two languages, we find our light.
Together we move, a team so strong,
Helping each other as we go along.
We learn, we explore, we laugh with glee,
There’s so much we can do, so much to see.
With kind teachers guiding us day by day,
Our dreams and goals won't slip away.
Whether German or English, Math or Sports,
In every lesson, we build our forts.
On the playground or the soccer field,
We give our all, we never yield.
On trips, we find excitement anew,
Discovering more, with each journey through.
In class, we show joy and courage too,
Our school is great, and that’s so true!

I honestly have nothing to add and find these sentiments a perfect conclusion to what has been a week of major importance for our school. Thanks to everyone in our community for their efforts.
