Important Safety Reminders for GISC Parents

Weekly Update from the Director - February 7, 2025
Dear GISC Families,

Please find two safety reminders regarding drop-off and pick-up as well as Visitor Sign-in Procedures

Drop-off and Pick-up:

Arrival and dismissal are the busiest times of day on the streets around our campus. Please be mindful of fellow members of the GISC community and neighborhood as you drop off and pick up students. There are two particular areas that have become more problematic in recent weeks:

Hermitage Avenue - Do not leave your vehicle double-parked or unattended. We encourage everyone to find a legal parking spot in proximity to the campus.

Crosswalk safety - Please do not park on crosswalks, or between the crosswalks on Berteau and Hermitage as it makes it more challenging for cars to see pedestrians trying to use the crosswalk. Please use the crosswalk rather than walking across the street through parked cars.

Safe driving - please remember to fully stop behind the crosswalks and slowly pull into legal parking spaces/loading zones - we would rather you be a little late than rush.

Visitor Sign-in Procedure During School Hours from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.:

Please always be mindful of your surroundings when entering the school, and do not hold the door open for anyone nor let anyone in (if you are already inside the building).

All visitors should enter the building at the main entrance on Berteau Avenue by communicating with the Administrative Office via the intercom system when doors are closed or communicating with the Administrative team member at the front door during morning drop-off.

A sign is posted at the main entrance with the instructions above the intercom device. Please ring the doorbell to call the office and let the staff member know who you are and the purpose of your visit. Should the office member not know you, please be prepared to show identification via the intercom camera system.

Visitors in the building during school hours must wear a Visitor’s Pass – upon entry, please sign in and receive a Visitor’s Pass at the sign-in station at the Front Office entrance. Upon leaving the school, please return the Visitor’s Pass and sign out. Please note: Parents/Guardians who are picking up a preschool student at 1pm as well as parents/guardians who are picking up students from After School Programs do not need to sign in and sign out.

We appreciate your cooperation in following this Visitor Sign-In Procedure. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the school office.

With best regards,

Ben Hebebrand
